Why we still shoot 16mm

Not nostalgia. A short note on grain, motion cadence, and what we trade for it.

16mm isn't cheaper, faster, or more flexible. But for fashion and beauty motion work it still earns its line. The cadence reads. The grain holds skin and small reflections in a way digital doesn't.

We treat it as a constraint. Two-take maximum, blocked rehearsal, slate on the head only. The cost is choreographic, and it's paid before the camera turns over.

What we get back is a frame that breathes. We budget for it. The work is better for it.
